Sat in on a panel discussion in Craig Stone's Professional Practices class today. Made up of people who got their MFA's at CSULB. Holding jobs like: artist assistant, museum education coordinator, public arts administration, preparator, professor. Super interesting.
Top three tips:
1. Writing is super important! (to get jobs, grants, residencies)
2. Networking is super important! (and not always sleezy. just be active and involved and you will meet people)
3. You do have to get a job and pay back those student loans after all.
ps- Who is your audience? Think about it because out of school there is no built in audience. There are no professors requiring you to meet with them so they can give you feedback and advice. There are no twenty person classroom crits. Who will be your peers, your new art community?
